Congratulations to Sirikoi on being voted as Eco-Lodge of the Year by Ecotourism Kenya.
“Sirikoi shows outstanding support to conservation and the well-being of the local people. The lodge demonstrates exceptional efforts specifically in conservation through Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, legal compliance, solid waste management and investment in solar energy technology.” – Ecotourism Kenya
Located on Lewa Wildlife Conservancy Sirikoi has taken as many measures as possibly to ensure a minimal impact on the environment. They run on solar power, have their own one-acre organic vegetable and fruit garden (which supplies them with daily produce), free range chickens and water provided by the crystal clear mountain spring; they use eco-friendly cleaning products and toiletries wherever possible and have a strict recycling policy. Their award is certainly well-deserved and they are setting a wonderful example which hopefully many more lodges will follow.
A bit more about Sirikoi…
A family run lodge rooted in the beauty of the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy on the northern slopes of Mount Kenya, Sirikoi offers luxurious accommodation, excellent wildlife viewing, gourmet food and an inescapable connection with Africa; the type of connection that, once in your blood you can never shake off. Their accommodation is split into luxury tented rooms, the Sirikoi cottage and the Sirikoi house – the last two available on an exclusive-use basis. All rooms offer wonderful views across the lawns, wetlands and waterholes that draw the wildlife right up to the lodge.
I challenge you to watch this video and not feel the undeniable urge to be there, breathing the fresh Kenyan air and listening to the sounds of nature. It is a magical place and my heart skips a beat just watching the video.
