I was fortunate to have an amazing visit in December to Mashatu Game Reserve, located in the Northern Tuli Game Reserve of Botswana. This is a national park in Zimbabwe and the Mapungubwe National Park, a World Heritage Site in South Africa.
Mashatu Tented Camp offers a real intimate bush experience with eight private tents tucked away in the trees. The camp staff are warm and friendly and soon guest and staff feel like a big family. Early morning and evening game drives brought us close to amazing wildlife to cheetah, leopard, lion, elephant, hyena, plains game and incredible birdlife. Mashatu also offers horse-back safaris, cycling safaris and bush walks.
Our guides and our trackers had intimate knowledge of the bush and many had been working at Mashatu for 13 years. We visited after the rains, so drove into this wonderland of devil flowers as far as the eye could see. It touched my soul to see herds of elephant returning and the vistas stretching ahead for miles.
