About
Africa is considered to be the oldest inhabited territory on Earth. Have you always wanted to see the Pyramids of Egypt or walk through the rock-hewn churches of Ethiopia? Would you like to learn about the Boer war or visit Robben Island? If history is what intrigues you, then Africa is your treasure chest.
Africa is Rich in History
The African continent is steeped in a rich history which cannot be summed up in one paragraph. If you are a history buff then you must consider a history tour which could include anything from a trip to Ethiopia to see “Lucy” (the famous skeletal remains of the oldest potential ancestor for every known human species) or the Johannesburg offering of The Cradle of Humankind with its incredible 3.5-million-year-old fossils.
Another option is to go to Tanzania and see Olduvai Gorge where the famous archaeologists Mary and Louis Leakey discovered skull fragments that helped explain the origins of humankind.
Further afield, once you’ve visited the magnificent gorillas in Rwanda, a humbling visit to the Genocide memorial in Kigali is needed to honour the victims of the 1994 genocide.
We haven’t forgotten that Africa is home to the world-famous pyramids too! A trip to Giza to view them as well as to see the haunting Sphinx and the many underground tombs must be on everyone’s bucket-list.
Do battlefields pique your interest? See where the Zulus defeated the British army at the famous battle at Isandlwana, just 170 kilometres north west of Durban. Visit the nearby Rorke’s Drift where the British were subsequently victorious after an attack by the Zulus. There are 5-star lodges in the area to pamper you while you absorb the riveting stories about the Anglo-Zulu war.

Climbing Mount Sinai
I guess, at some stage, most of us expect to tick Egypt off our bucket list of “travel destinations” worth a visit. The ancient land of pyramids and temples, Nile cruises and Arab markets most certainly tossed up a number of surprises. The warm & engaging people...
Ethiopia – A Parable Come To Life
During their recent trip to Ethiopia James Griswold and Trudy Jensen experienced a rather unique set of challenges that some have come to expect of the roads in deepest Africa. "Wherever we drove in Ethiopia, we found ourselves sharing the road with people and animals...
Three Trees at Spionkop
When I was younger we used to hurl insults to the Afrikaans kids and they to us. Insults of rooinek and soutpiel were vollied with cries of crunchie and dutchman. After that we used to settle down to the serious business of riding our bikes, trekking through the veld...
